My Approach to Family Photography

I’m here, I’m ready, I’m excited to photograph your family. But I get it, you have to mentally prepare yourself. You are thinking, I need to lose 5 pounds, what are we going to wear? Will my kids behave.

Well let me tell you , after photographing hundreds of families, It’s going to be ok, and more than that it’s going to be fun.

I’ve designed my sessions to be a fun experience for all of us. Trust me, as much as you hate standing in a group and smiling for the camera, I start to sweat when we take that picture. Aside from a document of who you are, that picture does nothing to describe you, the personality of your family, and your love and connection with one another.

Here’s what a session with me is really like.

We are going to walk, talk, get to know each other, and play. Basically we are going to hang out and have fun and I’ll document you along the way.

As we talk and get to know each other we will start to feel more comfortable, you and me! Also, as we go along, I will start to feel more inspired. You inspire me! No two sessions are alike, and I need to get to know you a little to learn how to photograph you.

Why are my sessions designed this way?

No one feels comfortable standing around and posing for a camera, unless they are a model. Most of us need to loosen up. Movement helps this. This is why we walk.

I like to make my job fun. I will shoot many different ways. I like to change my lenses a lot. I like to get up close as well as stand back and observe you. I like to stand up on higher ground to shoot down on you, I’ve also been known to lay on the ground and shoot up or just get down on your little ones level. I like to practice creative photography techniques and I’m always pushing myself to get gorgeous new innovative shots. This way I don’t get bored with my job and am constantly inspired and excited for each session.

The results

My sessions are designed to capture the connection between you and your loved ones in an authentic and artful way. In the end, we will capture some stunning portraits for you to preserve the legacy of your family.
